HERMES spectrograph officially launched

The HERMES spectrograph has been launched!

Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane did the honours this morning on site at the Anglo-Australian Telescope. An array of dignitaries were on hand for the launch, including AAO Director Prof Warrick Couch, former AAO Director Prof Matthew Colless and PM's Science Prize winner Prof Ken Freeman.

Prof Freeman is the co-lead of the GALAH team, who will use HERMES to map around 1 million stars in the Milky Way in order to discover the origins of our galaxy.

The media release from the Minister Macfarlane's office can be found here.
