"Observations of Molecular Gas in High-Redshift Galaxies"

Abstract. Fully understanding the evolutionary state of a galaxyrequires that we characterize its gas reservoir, of which the molecularcomponent represents the mass directly available for star formation. Iwill discuss radio observations of molecular gas in two populations ofstar-forming galaxies at high redshift -- Lyman break galaxies andsubmillimeter galaxies -- and what we can learn from them. I willhighlight recent work with the "Zpectrometer" (a new, ultrawidebandwidth 26-38 GHz spectrometer for the 100m Green Bank Telescope) andprospects for future work with ALMA (the Atacama LargeMillimeter/submillimeter Array).
