"Galaxy Dynamics, Star Formation and footsteps to WALLABY and MHONGOOSE (Joint with CASS)"

Abstract. The dynamics of galaxies can either inhibit or allow star formation; and when star formation occurs it can self-regulate via feedback processes and this will affect the dynamics of the gas and host galaxy. So, galaxy dynamics on both small-scales and large scales are tied to star formation. Studying gas kinematics via spectral line observations is very useful in this regard. The main part of the talk will be about studying the links between star formation and gas kinematics in nearby galaxies using optical and radio spectral line surveys and other multi-wavelength data. I will discuss my current work on the H-alpha kinematics and star formation of nearby HI-selected star forming galaxies that are part of the SINGG-SUNGG survey, and how this work will contribute to the MHONGOOSE and WALLABY HI surveys with MeerKAT and ASKAP. I will also talk about my velocity dispersion study of the THINGS, HERACLES and SINGS-Halpha surveys.
