Abstract. The mystery of the identity of progenitor systems for Type Ia supernovae is one of the current big questions in astrophysics, with many possibilities. I will present a solution that (a) the dominant progenitors are certainly double-degenerate systems (i.e., two white dwarfs inspiralling to their death), (b) any additional progenitor classes certainly do not include any red giants or helium stars, and this eliminates most of the remaining possibilities.
